The Public Educations Information Management System (PEIMS) is one of the largest education databases in the world. In addition to providing a variety of information and data for educators and parents, PEIMS is directly tied to campus performance ratings and school funding.
PEIMS encompasses all data requested and received by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) about public education, including students’ demographics and academic performance, and personnel, financial, and organizational information. For the PEIMS electronic collection, school districts submit their data via standardized computer files, as defined by the PEIMS Data Standards.
Data from the PEIMS are used to evaluate Texas school districts and campuses through the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS). The AEIS reports pull together a wide range of information about the performance of students in each school and district in Texas annually.
In compliance with the Texas Education Code, the PEIMS contains only the data necessary for the legislature and TEA to perform their legally authorized functions in overseeing public education.
